About Différance Drawings
Each piece begins with the conversion of an image into line art, after which the source image is deleted.
The line art functions as the origin from which multiple unique variations are generatively created using a variety of transformations such as:
- randomly shifting each vertex within defined ranges.
- randomly flipping paths or groups of paths horizontally or vertically.
- randomly rotating groups of paths within defined ranges.
These outputted variations are assembled into compositions and the variations are deleted.
Finally the composition is physically plotted using pen and ink and then that file is also deleted.
The repetition of creation, transformation, and erasure ensure a final piece where both the composition and the individual elements are unique while maintaining the underlying structure of the original line work.
Each drawing stands alone but exist in difference.
